Red Lips, Black Heels

On the wind, ‘cross the sea, / Hear this song and remember… Soon you’ll be home with me / Once upon a December.

IMG_1643We used to chant growing up, “together in Paris!”

Here we are, 16 years later, never actually knowing that we would be living together… in Paris.

I landed in France in August. I knew my cousin Anais was in the south and we talked about visiting each other. One day, I received a message saying, “I want to move to Paris”. We have some strong, personality traits that are similar and like me, nothing was stopping her until she was where we always said we would always be when we were little. We just never actually knew that it would happen.

On a cold December night as we stood on Pont Alexandre III, I held back tears as we sang Once Upon a December, a song from the movie Anastasia, in which the grandmother gives her a necklace that reads Together in Paris. This was what we would say we would do since I was three. Three years old and I had no clue what I was going to do with my life, but I knew I was going to go to the magical bridge in Paris that Anastasia stands in the final scenes of the film with my cousin, so we could have our own “princess adventure” story.

Having my cousin a 30 minute distance from me in this strange, magical city has now made the experience so much more worthwhile. I have one of my best friends here with me, we are doing this adventure together. She spends weekends with me (she has an extra toothbrush next to mine) where she either spends the day with me watching T.V. (I was sick all weekend) or when we feel better to explore the city.
